Some of the topics that will be covered during our full day workshop include:

  • What is and is not dyslexia?
  • What are the neurological impacts of dyslexia?
  • What are the unique strengths of the dyslexic child?
  • How can we best support the dyslexic child in the primary and elementary environments?
  • What are some accommodations / interventions that are naturally embedded in our Montessori practice that can serve the dyslexic child?
Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend this workshop. It will be especially beneficial for educators working with children 3-15, special education and resource instructors, school administrators, and parents of children with dyslexia.
 
Lunch will be provided. At the conclusion of the session attendees will receive a certificate for 6 hours of continuing education credit.

Cost: $75 until November 16th, $90 after November 16th

About the Trainer:

Alison Awes is the AMI Elementary Trainer at the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota, in St. Paul, USA. Ms. Awes holds AMI diplomas for Primary and Elementary levels, a B.A. in Art History from Smith College, a M.A. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University, and a M.Ed. in Montessori Education from Loyola College in Baltimore. She has taught in 6-9 and 9-12 classrooms, and has served on the board of Montessori schools and other organizations, including the AMIElementary Alumni Association and the founding board of Cornerstone Montessori Elementary School, a Saint Paul Charter school. Ms. Awes has lectured on AMI training courses and delivered local and national teacher workshops.
